After the whirlwind rounds in the Club Competitions this season, the finals day ended up being a good success. With what looked like a likely rainy day, the clouds stayed good and we got through the day staying dry!
The competitions themselves were all very well fought and close matches were seen across all the finals. Some coming down to the last bowls of the match.
Winners on the day
June O'Neill - Ladies Singles
Stuart Muir - Mens Singles
Paul Wingham - Handicap Singles
Dave Fryer & Mick Maxwell - Mens Pairs
June O'Neill & Stacey Fryer - Ladies Pairs
Michelle Squires & Mick Maxwell - Mixed Pairs
Well done to Michelle Squires and Mitchell Young (Springhouse Bowls Club) on winning the Fred Bromley trophy for a second time in three seasons last night at Orsett Bowls Club. After a tense game against Angie Ings and Dave Comerford, seeing the scores tied at 13-13 going in to the last end in less than favorable light conditions Mitchell managed to play a running bowl to take the jack to the ditch to win the game 14-13. Let's see if we can keep the trophy at Drums for another year again next season.
Well done today to Michelle Squires on winning the TALBA 2 Wood Singles final 19-5 at United Services against Margaret Eales from Chadwell St Mary Bowls Club, this keeps the trophy at Drums for another year! Hopefully she can follow it up with another win in the triples tomorrow against Corringham when she is joined by June O'Neill and Mae Robinson. Then the Fred Bromley final at Orsett on Wednesday the 7th at 5.30pm
