After a months wait, we finally managed to complete our home fixture against Chadwell St Mary, with all rinks restarting in the lead it was made better with one gaining 11 shots in the opening 2 ends. With Drums requiring a 7-0 result to claim the title with a game in hand, it looked complete on the 18th end when the closest match took 9 shots over the following 2 ends. Wrapping up a total 99-28 shot win over the three rinks putting us 1 point ahead of our closest rivals Grays Town who have no more games in the league to play.
Well done to all the players who this year have had to play with a small squad and constant changes in rinks. With another game to go, lets see if we can make it through the whole season unbeaten.

Club finals will be held this coming Saturday 26/08/17 and the order of play is noted below
10am Open Pairs Paul Wingham & Dave Wakefield V Stacey Fryer & Pauline Maxwell Handicap Singles Chris Muir V Michelle Squires 2pm Ladies Singles June O’Neill V Caroline Muir Mens Singles Stuart Muir V Martin Childs TBD Mens Pairs Alex Browning & Paul Wingham V Adam Bailey & Stuart Muir Well done and good luck to all involved. Once again it's been a good showing for both men and women of Drums Bowls club in the local District competitions. With places already booked in the finals of the Mixed Fours, Mens Pairs, Ladies Secretaries and also the Ladies 2 Wood Singles it should be a good couple of finals days. The Mixed Fours sees a guaranteed win for Drums as we have managed to get two teams to the final. Also still going in other competitions we have two entries making it through to the semi finals of the Fred Bromley and also the Mens 2 Wood Singles in both cases they are in opposite halves with another chance for an all Drums final.
With just two games to go Drums are left requiring 7 points to claim the title. In what's going to end up being probably the longest season so far the final match comes against Springhouse on the 30th August and with any luck we can have the league sewn up before then with our rearranged match against Chadwell St Mary next week. With the three matches to resume from where they left off we were up on all three and holding on for the wins will see the trophy coming to Drums.
Due to poor weather and double booking of matches we've ended the season with 3 games still to play. These have been arranged as the following :
09/08/17 - Springhouse (Home) 16/08/17 - Thurrock (Away) 23/08/17 - Chadwell St Mary (Home) Please could you check your diaries and let Peter Madgewick know your availability if not already done so. Dates are in the Drums calendar if you have this added to your phone or can be found in the Matches & Events tab of the webpage. |
